For ease of writing I'm going to personify the AIs.
I was quite impressed with Rommel's start-up; Sorian performs a fairly conservative start-up and gets straight into base construction, whereas Rommel expanded almost as fast as a human player would, taking control of half the mass points by 5 minutes.
The first T1 attack forces were appearing by this stage; Rommel had much more firepower though, having chosen a pure tank army.

Sorian's first army was disappeared into Rommel's horde of tanks, however Rommel chose not to capitalize on this temporary weakness and left Sorian time to rebuild. Meanwhile, Rommel's engineers did continue to expand his mass-gathering operation.

Due to Rommel's ground-only focus, Sorian's small air-force succeeded in destroying 5 mass points in the center of the map. Rommel continued to bide his time, building more and more tanks and a small number of LABs.

Finally, after 20 minutes Rommel gives the order to advance. Taking the most direct path, which happens to by-pass the advancing forces of Sorian, Rommel halts just short of Sorian's defensive line. Impressively, Rommel sends out 2 lone tanks to scout ahead and locate the point-defense before proceeding with the main assault.

Unfortunately, at around the same time Rommel gave the order to advance, Sorian had started production on a platoon of T2 tanks, which quickly rolled over Rommel's entire army. Sorian's T1 army was also closing in quickly on Rommel's poorly defended base, seemingly resulting in an increase in Rommel's air-force spending.

With the support of some gunships, Rommel manages to rebuild a ground army, but foolishly wastes much of his budget on submarines. Meanwhile, Sorian captures the central mass points.

Rommel's army sweeps his defensive lines, clearing out all attackers, and digs his heels in with T2 shields and artillery. Despite churning out T2 units constantly, Sorian has also started gathering a group of SAB's.

With defensive measures in place around his base, Rommel went on the offense again with his new army. Unfortunately, Rommel's army consisted mostly of LAB's, which wouldn't be able to penetrate Sorian's T2 fire-bases, let alone the advancing tide of SAB's.

Sorian's SAB's easily break through Rommel's rear defenses and start laying waste to Rommel's T3 farms.

In a last-ditch attempt to stop Sorian's attack, Rommel sends his commander in to fight the SAB's.

SAB's > Commander

A few general observations:
- I was quite surprised when Rommel used two of his tanks to find the PD before sending in the whole army!
- Rommel is very expansive at the start, and would have done well if he had attacked sooner
- Both Rommel and Sorian gained control of the skies at different points, though Rommel's air-force was mostly used defensively
- Rommel also would have done a lot more damage if Sorian hadn't reached tech 2 before he had a chance to attack
- Sorian's economy relied heavily on a huge T1 mass-fab farm located in the main entrance to his base! A few well-placed bombers could have stalled Sorian and given Rommel a much needed chance to catch up
- Rommel's economy relied mostly on T2 pgens and upgraded mex's, and a few T3 pgen/mfab pairs later
- Both AI's built fairly solid defenses when needed
- Both AI's seemed to use different path's across the map with each attack
- No AI seems to use ships very well on my map, possibly because there's no attack/rally markers in the water, and there's no path from the north to the south sea.
The pictures are great.|||Excellent review. IIRC the Rommel AI was based on the Rush AI, that would explain the many ground-units and the slow teching.|||Good reading material, thanks I enjoyed it..|||How do you get the game to have two AI's fight each other? I haven't been able to figure that out.
